INS Physicals for Green Card

(Information supplied on this topic is from experience only, and in no way reflects policies, regulations, or laws from either Canada, USA, Manitoba, or Minnesota.

General
For nearly ALL methods of obtaining your US Permanent Residency (aka Green Card), each family member must pass what is called an INS Physical.  If you are having your Green Card processed while you reside in the USA, the physical will be done in the US.  If you are having your Green Card processed through a Consular post in Canada, your physical - though somewhat different - will be done in Montreal Canada.

This document will focus on the INS Physicals that are conducted in the USA for people processing their Green Cards while residing in the USA.  This process is call the "Adjustment of Status" phase of the multi-part process of getting your Green Card.

Locations:
INS Physicals can only be completed at authorized clinics that have "Civil Surgeons" present on staff.  These doctors have been approved by the INS to conduct these physicals, and have receive special training for them.  There are only a handful of authorized locations in the Twin Cities metro area, as listed below.  We attended the Park Nicolet Airport Clinic by recommendation in Richfield, MN (right next to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport).  If you are able to travel to this location, I would also make this recommendation.

Immunizations:
A major part of the INS physical is for the clinic to determine if your immunizations are up to date.  Use the chart below to determine which shots you will need ahead of time.  If positive proof that such immunization shots have NOT be taken by each member of your family, you will be required to get such shots over again.  You can get these shots at your local clinic PRIOR to this INS Physical - just remember to retain PROOF that you had such shots:
